Calaveras Track & Field

Team Guidelines & Rules

As a member of the Calaveras Track & Field team you will follow the rules and guidelines set down before you as students and athletes, and as representatives of Calaveras High School.

Eligibility: The Following standards have been set forth for each team member to meet and adhere too. Each student athlete must have and maintain a 2.0 GPA to be eligible to be a member of the team. Academics, of course, should be your main focus at Calaveras and we are here to support you in this endeavor.

Also, any breach of training rules, such as disciplinary problems, the use of tobacco, alcohol, or drugs will result in immediate removal from the track team.

Attendance: Daily attendance at practice should be a priority for any athlete going out for the Calaveras track team. Tardiness and missing practices without a valid reason will be cause for suspension or dismissal from the team.

An unexcused absence will result in that team member missing to compete in the next meet. The individual event coach will handle tardies unless they become excessive in which case the head coach will become involved.

A request to miss practice will be honored if accompanied by a note from a parent. Hair appointments are not a valid reason to miss practice. Schedule, whenever possible, all appointments after practice.

Practice begins at 3:30 sharp, with all team members meeting for a warm-up jog, and ends at ~5:15. We will practice everyday, rain or shine.

Conduct: No one member of the team is more important than the team as a whole. As a member of this team you must follow the rules and guidelines set forth here.

Any overt display of displeasure or frustration (tantrums) will not be tolerated. The athlete will be required to have a discussion with his or her coach, and may be removed from a practice or a meet. We cannot afford losses of emotional control during competition and will begin learning this in practice situations.

Willful destruction of school property will result in severe disciplinary action and monetary restitution demanded where rightful. This includes any and all equipment and uniforms checked out to you as an individual and any implements in your care while we are practicing or competing.

Willful disobedience will not be tolerated. Suspension or exemption from the team is the penalty.

Profanity or vulgarity will not be tolerated, nor will hostility toward a teammate or an opponent.

Anytime the team is traveling by bus; team members will act accordingly, obeying rules of common sense and good behavior. All regulations set forth by the operators of the bus will be enforced and obeyed. All team members are responsible for cleaning of the bus when we return to school. Pick up after yourself and this will become almost unnecessary.

Equipment: Each team member will be issued a uniform before the first meet of the season. You are required to take proper care of this uniform. Replacement costs for team uniforms are substantial, so it is in your best financial interest to care for your uniform, warm-ups, and implements.

Jewelry should be kept to a minimum, as it can be a distraction as well as the cause for injury.

Injuries: Although we, the coaching staff, will prepare you for practices and competition in a safe environment designed to prevent injuries, injuries are at times unavoidable. All injuries must be reported to one of the coaches and preferably the head coach. It is very important to deal with an injury as quickly as possible and making the coaching staff aware of an injury is the first step. We want your experience on this team to be positive and not dragged down by injury.

During the track season, track team members should use common sense when participating in recreational activities. Possibly dangerous activities such as basketball and skateboarding should be done in moderation in order to avoid jeopardizing the team’s success and your individual success. Too many athletes have ended a season because of something they were doing that was completely removed from the sport.

Earning a Letter: Calaveras Track & Field athletes must meet the following minimum standards to receive a letter at season’s end:

Each athlete must have a practice attendance record of a least 90% with absences only being of the excused variety.

Compete in or attend all league meets and the League Finals.

Use common sense and treat others with respect and dignity
