Fire/First Responder? Nursing? Veterinary medicine? Paramedic?
Diagnostic Imaging tech?
Do any of those job titles interest you? Do you know the average
salary for the jobs? If you are interested and would like to “try
out” one of the careers listed, or many others, ROP Medical Science
is the class for YOU!
Current job market analysis demonstrates immediate openings for
radiology techs and psych techs. The future demands for health
care workers include all aspects of the healthcare field including
nursing and information technology as increasing numbers of
facilities convert medical records to computerized systems.
Part-time as well as full-time workers usually qualify for medical
and retirement benefits.
The ROP Medical Science Class is available to Calaveras County
students during their senior year. Students in the ROP Medical
Science Class will actively apply information and skills that are
learned in the classroom; they train in REAL facilities,
side-by-side REAL medical professionals, and deal with REAL
patients. They will experience the health care field
first-hand and gain an understanding of medicine. The ROP Medical
Science Class allows high school seniors to “try on” a medical
career to see if medicine “fits” them while earning high school
credits.
The class meets the UC elective requirement and participating
students may earn college credit, and develop skills for a career in
various medical fields including First Responders (EMT, Paramedic,
and Fire Fighter), dental assisting, veterinary assisting, nursing,
diagnostic services (radiology and laboratory), restorative services
(physical therapy)and many other medical careers and support
services.
Include the ROP Medical Science in your four-year high school
education plan—plan NOW so you will be able to participate in the
program during your senior year. Seats are limited.

Drivers Education
Some small points to be aware of:
The 9th Graders are doing drivers education right now, so your
students will begin taking a greater interest in driving.
They can get their permit after age 15 ½ and they no longer
need a certificate of enrollment for drivers training. They do
need drivers training with an instructor and to drive with you for
50 hours (of which 10 must be night driving) before they take their
driving test.
If they lose their certificate of completion for drivers education,
they will need to see Jessica Munson in the front office to pay $5
to have a new one reissued by Mr. Gissler, so please, help them not
lose the certificates.
